Zodiac has announced it will launch three new N-ZO cabin RIBs into the RIB market; The new model ribs will be the N-ZO 600, 680 and 760. The new rib models will introduce new hull and deck designs, to build on the success of Zodiac’s first high performance cabin N-ZO RIB launched to the UK, the N-ZO 700 CABIN. The new N-ZO cabin RIBs were previewed in Italy at the beginning of October and details of their UK debut will be announced shortly.

Italian designer, Vittorio Garroni, has once again used his exceptional talent to develop the new models with the needs of recreational boat owners in mind. Meeting necessary technical specifications and featuring exclusive lines, the N-ZO range is designed to offer passenger safety and comfort.

Benefiting from Zodiac designed hulls, the N-ZO 600, 680 and 760 boast two new innovative features. New technology used on the shell, equipped with a pronounced V-hull, offers unmatched sea keeping and handling, while the generous height of the free-boards, enhanced by the size of its buoyancy tube, turns the cockpit into a ‘cocoon’ for passengers.

For premium passenger comfort at sea and when moored, several innovative features have been incorporated into the deck design of the N-ZO range to optimise use of on-board space. The deck lay-out has been designed to facilitate safe movement on-board and the new ‘Air Console’ has been positioned higher, maximising floor space and increasing the size of the boat’s interior.

The modular design of the boats has not been overlooked and all N-ZO models also have a spacious aft saloon, perfect for entertaining, which can seat a number of people and offers direct access to the aft bathing platform. The N-ZO range is equipped with a new bow sunbathing system ‘Reverse & Sun’, which allows an extensive sundeck to be easily assembled in a matter of seconds by simply unfolding the structure.

The new N-ZO range comprises boats that are designed to be aesthetically pleasing, seaworthy, spacious, and particularly safe.

Latest-generation F115 makes its debut at the 2102 PSP Southampton International Boat Show

Yamaha F115

The new F115 joins the Yamaha line-up for 2012 and looks sure to become even more popular and sought after than its predecessor – which has been a firm favourite with boat owners all over the world since its launch more than a decade ago.

The relentless model development programme at Yamaha has now made this iconic engine even lighter and more efficient. And like all the quiet and powerful Yamaha Four Strokes, the new F115 delivers a perfect blend of smooth, economical and reliable performance – promising people more relaxed and pleasurable boating than any other outboard. Whether the stern it graces belongs to a family cruiser, a sports boat or RIB, a fishing craft or a commercial workhorse.

Yamaha’s global reputation as the number one outboard manufacturer has been built on its heritage of constant innovation and the development of state-of-the-art technologies. The latest-generation F115 is yet another example of this philosophy in action.

Proven technology. Improved upon.

The F115 keeps its well proven DOHC, 1741cc, in-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve format, but by introducing a range of new parts and re-designing the fuel and air-intake systems, as well as the engine cowling, Yamaha have created an outboard that’s not only more efficient, but lighter too. Here’s how:

New Intake Throttle – improves engine response. The new electronic single throttle valve replaces the original four valve set-up and works in combination with the ECM to increase fuel efficiency and deliver quicker acceleration and throttle response under all engine operating conditions.

New Intake manifold – for maximum torque. A new long air intake manifold, fitted with a resonator, ensures exactly the right amount of air reaches the combustion chambers at precisely the right time to maximise mid-range torque. The new air intake system helps to make the new F115 3kg lighter without compromising its legendary durability and reliability.

New cylinder head – improved performance. The combustion chambers and intake ports have been re-shaped too to increase efficiency. These improvements mean the F115 now delivers even stronger performance.

New cowl – improves air flow and drainage. The new-shape cowling plays its part too, being designed to achieve more effective intake of air and even greater protection against the possibility of corrosion from water entering the casing.

New Sensor – protects the engine. To complement the unmatched combustion efficiency, strong performance and excellent fuel economy of the multi-point EFI system, the latest F115 features an extra engine sensor. A new Knock sensor means the ECM (Engine Control Module) now receives engine information from no less than six separate sensors. This additional sensor detects any tendency of the engine to run less than perfectly, allowing the ECM to adjust the ignition timing with optimum precision.

COMPATIBLE WITH Yamaha’s digital network system. With its comprehensive line-up of Digital Network Gauges. This revolution in command and control is every helmsman’s dream – precise, accurate information from the easy-to-read gauges and precise accurate control from the electronic engine control systems.

Yamaha Customer Outboard Protection (Y-COP). Peace of mind comes standard on the F115. It’s the Yamaha Customer Outboard Protection system. Your Yamaha outboard is valuable and much sought after, sometimes by people you might not want to share it with. Y-COP’s simple push-button remote control immobilises your engine so that just like your car, it only starts when you want it to.

AB Rider RIB

The Professional/Commercial Series includes one Open Aluminium Boat type (Profile A Series) and one Console Fibreglass Boat Model type (Profile F Series).

Hulls

All AB hulls are constructed from either double-moulded, hand-laid fibreglass, or high quality marine grade aluminium. The unique forward hull design creates a raised bow and deep V hull which enhances the performance of every AB model enabling them to plane more easily with less horsepower. They will cut through wakes and chop, virtually eliminating spray providing a smoother, more stable, drier ride. Inside the boat, this design extends the floors forward and creates a wider and longer bow. The result is a roomier, more comfortable craft with ample storage for kit and provisions.

Tubes

The tubes are constructed from a 5-ply Orca Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene (CSM) coated fabric that is specifically manufactured to resist scratches and UV damage, while retaining its remarkable durability. This fabric is so superior that it carries a ten-year limited warranty, the longest available in the industry. AB inflatable tubes have a large diameter that improves safety and seaworthiness, increases payload capabilities and helps to ensure a dry and comfortable ride. Every AB tube, except the 8 & 9UL, features a minimum of three air chambers. They are divided by a special baffle system that equalises the pressure in all chambers. In addition, each AB model has tubes that are individually proportioned to complement the hull dimensions.

“AB Inflatables are built to an exceptionally high standard using only the finest materials. The precision design and craftsmanship ensures that AB customers will always enjoy the best possible functionality and comfort available. Their robust and durable construction also makes these craft an ideal working performance RIB for numerous commercial and military applications”, comments Ian Nuttall, General Manager, Marine Division, E. P. Barrus Ltd.

Orolia announced today via its subsidiary McMurdo Ltd: Kannad Marine has pledged its support for a team of firefighters from Manchester, UK, which is planning to circumnavigate the British coastline by Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) in 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes. Kannad Marine will supply six SafeLink SOLO Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) to the team, who are undertaking the challenge to raise money for the Firefighter’s Charity and the Fire Department New York Association Fund on the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks.

The challenge will start at 0700 on 10th September 2011 from Southampton, with the first leg being a gruelling 250 mile stretch to Padstow. From there the team will travel around the British mainland, completing the challenge with a final leg from Ramsgate to Southampton on 18th September.

The route will be taking them to the following destinations:

10th Sept Southampton

10th Sept Padstow

11th Sept Pwllheli

12th Sept Whitehaven

Facing some tough offshore passages in their 6.3m RIB, the team are pleased to have the support of Kannad Marine. Team member, Mark Wilson, an officer with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, comments; “We are fully aware that should anything go wrong, we would be on our own, and at times out of handheld VHF range. Kannad Marine’s SOLO PLBs will provide a safety net should the worst case scenario happen and a crew member falls overboard.”

Kannad Marine’s SOLO PLB can be used to alert the emergency services no matter where the user is in the world. It operates on the international 406 MHz distress signal which is monitored 24/7 by the global COSPAS SARSAT satellite communication network. This compact and lightweight beacon also has an in-built 50 channel GPS receiver, enabling search and rescue services to pinpoint the PLBs precise location and carry out an effective rescue.

The 9:9:9 Coastal Challenge has already been endorsed by well-known adventurer Bear Grylls, who says; “This is a great challenge for an incredible charity that saves lives all year round. I admire the team’s courage so much.”

The team are expecting to encounter some rough seas, particularly around the exposed Scottish coastline. As one of two experienced Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Powerboat Instructors taking part in the challenge, Mark Wilson will be joined by six other operational firefighters, a recently retired fire officer plus two members of the service’s non-operational support staff. None of the 10-strong team has attempted a challenge of this sort before.

As part of the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, the team members are all very aware of the excellent work undertaken by the Firefighter’s Charity, which supports injured firefighters through its rehabilitation programme. The Charity has been instrumental in helping a fellow member of the service, one of the team’s colleagues, who received 50% burns whilst attempting to save a family from a burning flat in Bolton in 2009.

Visitors to this year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show are being offered some extra excitement by having the chance to experience power boating. Suzuki will be running free RIB rides throughout the duration of the show (10th – 19th September).

The Suzuki RIB Experience will be running alongside the already popular ‘Try a boat’ scheme enabling even more people to get out for some on water fun.

The boat being used for the Suzuki RIB Experience is a Ribcraft 7.8m RIB, which is powered by one of Suzuki’s V6 250hp four stroke outboard motors.

Solent RIB Charters have been appointed by Suzuki to run the RIB Experience. The RIB Experience rides will be free to all attending the show, all riders will be asked to make voluntary donation to the Sea Cadets.

Suzuki RIB Experience

To get involved and have a ride yourselves all you need to do is pop down to the Suzuki stand (C005) and book a time to get out on the water, of course this is all subject to availability, there is no doubt this will be once again an extremely popular attraction so we recommend you get down there early to secure your spot. The RIB can take nine people at a time, life jackets will be provided.

Gareth Lumsdaine, Sales & Marketing Manager for Suzuki GB’s Marine Division said, “The PSP Southampton Boat Show is an important event for us as it is a show where customers can get out and try the products. We wanted to maximise this opportunity and give as many people as possible the chance to experience the Suzuki way of life. So if you are looking to test a particular boat type or outboard model you can pre-book with a selection of boat builders via our website. Or if you just fancy getting out on the water for a quick blast and some fun you can take the Suzuki RIB Experience.”

Andrew Williams, Managing Director of National Boat Shows said, “We are very grateful to Suzuki for the commitment they have shown to this year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show and for providing the Suzuki RIB Experience. We believe that it will be a valuable and very popular addition to the show.”

So if you fancy an adrenaline rush and some excitement on the water on this already jam packed weekend head down and sign up with the guys at the Suzuki stand (C005).

Juliet Marine Systems Ghost Stealth Boat

A new boat (not a RIB, but still a very interesting marine development) designed to move fast and stealthily through water has been developed by Juliet Marine. The craft reduces water friction by a factor of 900 generating a layer of gas around its underwater surfaces. Juliet Marines Ghostis reported to be able to reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.

The boats shape is similar to attempts in the 1980s at making watercraft less visible to radar, most notably the Navy’s Sea Shadow project.

The design reduces friction by a factor of 900, according to Juliet Marine. The phenomenon that the craft creates is called supercavitation. Supercavitation occurs when an object moving through water generates a low pressure zone around its surface. If the object is moving fast enough the low pressure zone becomes a layer of gas. The boats supercavitation principle works in a similar way to that of the Rusian Squall torpedo reducing friction and therefor increasing speed. Its smooth speed makes it ideal for special operations and renaming undetected on radar. This development could have huge implementations within the shipping industry and could revolutionize the shipping world.

Gregory Sancoff, President and CEO of Juliet Marine, says this boat is a quantum leap beyond those early designs. “The Sea Shadow was an 11-knot craft,” he said. “This is much faster.”

Sancoff isn’t willing to go into much technical detail, partly because the U.S. government is interested and the company is working with a defense contractor to build a 150-foot model. He can say that the double-hulled boat generates and surrounds itself with a layer of gas, reducing friction and boosting its speed.
